Hi! I’m Dr. Kathy Fry

PT, DPT, OCS…all those letters just to say that I’m a doctor of physical therapy specializing in orthopedic and pelvic floor rehabilitation and a reiki master dedicated to helping my patients with all of the topics most people don’t want to talk about…you know…about your “down stairs.”

My purpose is to create a safe space for easy and open communication between myself and my patients in order for them to feel comfortable talking about their health without embarrassment, fear of rejection, shame or ridicule. My patients and I talk about just about everything from little successes of finally making it to the bathroom without peeing their pants or the intimate details about their digestive or sexual health. My mission is to help my patients live their best lives without the struggle of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.

My passion for this field of work began when I was just a wee little grad student fresh out of a career change from interior design to physical therapy…I know! They have so much in common ((shrugs shoulders)). Now, instead of redesigning interior spaces in peoples’ homes, I help redesign the interior space of their bodies.
I first learned about pelvic floor physical therapy and its existence from Jeni Gabelsberg, a guest lecturer. She passionately highlighted all of the pelvic disorders that nobody really wants to talk about like leaking and pelvic pain during sex. She also assured us that many of these dysfunctions were COMMON but NOT NORMAL and treatable. For some reason, the myth has been circulating for some time that it's normal to pee just a little when you laugh or cough after having babies, or once you reach a certain age. Once I heard that people didn’t have to live this way, I was in!

When patients ask me why I got into this field I say “so you don’t have to always be thinking about where the bathroom is wherever you go, or have to bring an extra pair of clothes with you, or perhaps to be able to have pleasurable connected intimacy with your partner without the distraction of pain.”

What makes me different is that I have never shied away from topics that are considered “taboo.” What can I say? I’m comfortable talking about topics that most people would say are not appropriate for the dinner table. When it comes to our health, it's imperative to be able to express what we’re going through with our medical providers. Once we chat, you’ll see that I’m here to listen to all the details you may not feel comfortable sharing with anyone else.

In my opinion, there is no such thing as TMI (too much information).

Reiki energy healing presented itself to me while I was on my own healing journey, looking for alternative approaches in conjunction with western medicine to heal the physical and the energetic body. This type of healing opened my eyes to the importance of a holistic model of healing one's mind, body and spirit and helped form my philosophy for treating patients as a whole being (BECAUSE YOU ARE ONE!) instead of a body part to be treated. As I advanced in my corporate career, I realized that I could not treat my patients in the way that I ultimately knew would best promote interconnected healing of the mind, body, and spirit and empower patients to take charge of their overall health and well being.

The things that light me up and feed my soul outside of the clinic are running, hiking, getting out in nature, relaxing through yoga and meditation and growing healing herbs and vegetables in my garden.
I’ve traveled the world and have found myself back home in California seeking brave, new adventures.

  • “Having been employed in a variety of service sectors for nearly 30 years, I do not wish to come with some weighted voice of opinion, but rather as an individual with many experiences across many professionals. Dr. Katherine Fryconstantly goes above and beyond in recognizing my individual needs, showcasing the issues, diagnosing realistic expectations, and honest of her limitations. It has been nothing short of my pleasure being her patient.”
